A water heater that is older than 10 years should be considered for replacement. The maximum lifespan of most electric water heaters is 10 to 15 years maximum.
Gas powered systems are usually maxed out at 10 years. A tankless water heater may not need to be replaced for 15 years or more. This all depends on servicing and maintenance of your machine. -
