There are three different plumbing systems available.
- Sanitary system - this is a local sewer system water from your home drains to the local sewer system
- Stormwater system - water from gutters and outside your home drains into an outside storm drain and back into local water systems
- Potable system - This is your drinking water that comes from the taps in your home.
There are five different types of materials commonly used in plumbing in Canada: copper, galvanized steel, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), and cross-linked polyethylene (PEX).
Every insurance plan is different and you should contact your insurance company before proceeding. It is common however for insurance plans to cover accidental water damage due to a plumbing failure.
To obtain a proper permit in Saskatchewan you must be a licensed plumbing contractor. This means you need to be registered with the city. The permit to complete work cannot be transferred to any other plumber once completed.
All plumbing work that falls under “design, installation, construction, addition, renovation, alteration, repair, removal, or operation of a plumbing system” requires a permit. This is the case for both urban and rural properties. Your plumber will normally fill out the permit for you unless otherwise discussed.
There are three main components to a plumbing system. There are the fixtures, the pipes and fittings, and the drainage system. You may also sometimes have a water treatment or water softening system attached to your plumbing system. A licensed plumber or (journeyperson) will be able to work on any section of your plumbing system.
